July Tour Dates
East Coast shows will be hot and heavy!
We’ve got a 4-date mini-tour coming up in early July, kicking off with a headlining two-hour duo set in New Glasgow, followed by two full-band dates in Moncton and Halifax, and finishing up with an acoustic duo set close to home at an independent book shop in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
We have been working slowly but diligently in our home studio this spring, crafting a new collection of songs that will most certainly amount to a full-length album. We are so enamoured by this lengthy process! It’s challenging to chip away at both the songwriting and recording process over the course of many months, as opposed to hunkering down and doing it all in one contained block of time, as we once did.
Those youthful days of cordoning off time to record in scenic tucked away Ontario cottages are behind us, but we’ve got a beautiful rental house we are grateful to call home and its view beats that of the Great Lakes cottage where we recorded our first two albums by a longshot.
Our third album - and several EPs - were recorded in the Halifax area between 2010-2012 and marked a big shift in our methodology. We began to work whenever we wanted to as opposed to forcing ourselves to complete entire albums in a matter of weeks. Don’t get me wrong: there were still plenty of constraints at play, including cost, day job schedules, access to somewhere we could make noise, and our emotional limitations at the time.
During the months leading up to our fourth full-length, Sonic Union, we’d often work in our jam space overnight or very early in the mornings, as that was the only way we could avoid our tracks being ruined by the inescapable sound of the metal band practicing in the room next to us.
All told, those were blurry, hedonistic, productive and really enjoyable times. 2013 marked the peak of what I have come to view as Phase One of Cursed Arrows. Culminating in the release of both Sonic Union + a full-length album of fan-commissioned cover songs, we essentially saddled ourselves with a double album’s worth of recording and music videos. That kept us busy for nearly two years.
As fun as it all was, it was also time to rest and reevaluate what kinds of artists and people we were, and aspired to be. We ended up welcoming parenthood into the fold, but not until after the giant non-sequitor that was our performance art/side project Bardos.
I’ll save that story for another time, but for now, here are our upcoming tour dates for July. If you’re in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, we’d be so honoured to see you out there!
